Been looking for these pics a lot, never had time to get one while on the run with Gianfranco. I miss that place.
Cheers Fil, nice work as usual

I’d like to ask you about studio’s name. What’s the origin of it? “58a” – is it an address or what?
Yep. It was here in Rome, “Viale delle Milizie 58a”. I liked that number. And I didn’t like those fancy names like “studio flash guitar” or “guitar lab” or stuff like that. I wanted it to be simple.
So, no story behind it like 5150 of Eddie van Halen, because that one came to my mind instantly
But I like it. Simple and effective.

What a great location…and more than just a studio, also perfect for hanging around with your band and trying things out.
Do you know what happens to it now? Is it still a studio?
Absolutely, it was meant to be more than a studio and it was. Of course I know what happened to it: it’s in the hands of a professional (and very successful) musician. A piano player. It looks exactly as it is on pictures, he kept it this way, as he fell in love with it as it was. He takes good care of it

Ah, thats fine. At least, that’s the second best ending that could happen, right?

Takes me back. Strange man in dark suit and tie talking about Angus tones and then he starts to play and I sit there open mouthed. where it all began in April 2007.
If that studio had been in London it woulda been booked solid for months ahead. Pity. Woulda loved a souvenier T shirt lol
However…all things must change and move forward and you have done just that Fil. xxhugz

what a great article. That was a studio to be very proud of. Love this site as well!

This is such a good story. A little bit sad, but hey, this is the ingredient of a good story anyway
I found this article some years ago and impress me so much. Your “foundation” is based on heavy ground and this is the thing that make go further and pass over obstacles.
As a previous user said, the feeling of the interior was so warm and I still wonder: the tone of your guitars was influenced by the walls or the tone gives color to the interior

That studio sticks out in your videos…probably what drew me into the SoloDallas brand as much as the playing
Too bad it’s gone..

Hey, the studio looked awesome! glad you shared this story.

Absolutely Amazing, You couldn’t do this sorta stuff with YouTube, ey? Im stoked to read more articles like this. May I ask? If you were to attempt to count up all your currently owning guitars in your head, what approx number do you think you would come out with?
AND it pleases me much to hear you say so. Thank you

No, on youtube I couldn’t and didn’t want to do so. This is more intimate. This is for us.
I never counted them really as I’m always selling/buying, so the number varies. I think I have arouund 30ish guitars now, among electrics, acustics, bass and one ukulele
You got a great screen name.

Haha thanks, The names Mick by the way, You’ll probably see me give comments a fair bit. I love Malcolm, I have to say he’s my favorite member of the band. The tightness of his playing all through is Career. Yes i couldn’t wait for all this website to come out. I always said to myself from the minute i started watching you “This guy NEEDS a website!” Great that you’ve got one. ALot more flexibility.

Whenever I think about the majority of your vids, I always remember that studio. Looks like it had a great vibe to it, the color gives off a very warm vibe. I never realized how much was put into it, I can only imagine how much money and dedication you put into it. If I ever made it anywhere with guitar, I would of definatley loved to come out there and record!
It did have a great vibe. Bravo. I had wanted it to have that vibe myself. Thanks for your words Tyler

ah… didn’t cut any corners with the quality of the studio then!
Thoroughly engaging article Fil.
Thanks Rob
No, I hadn’t cut corners on that one. I “thought” it was the way to go. But I was wrong
Since I know you a bit now – reading even the way a person “rephrases” words and statements tells me about him – I even appreciate more if you call it “engaging”. Coming from you, therefore, it’s even a bigger compliment.

Hold on, you actually had one of Eric Johnson’s personal amplifiers?
Well maybe now you could tell us if his tone was in the fingers or equipment
about 1 year ago
Yes. It was a JTM45 with EL34s in it. It’s definitely in the fingers!
